My 5 Favorite Wellness Books

As soon as I started getting into health and wellness, I started devouring all the books I could about it. There’s so much out there! How do you even sift through it and figure out what’s right for you?

What’s right for me may not necessarily be right for you, but here are a few of my favorites to start with. (Click the image for more information).

1. Body Love Every Day by Kelly Leveque

Kelly Leveque is the one who started it all for me; she was the first person to catch my attention with nutrition and its specific effects on the body, and she is so gifted in both being knowledgeable about the science of nutrition and explaining it in a way that is accessible and easy to understand.

This book has lots of info about stabilizing your blood sugar levels (and thus your energy levels), but it also has lots of recipes related to this. (If you ever hear me talk about drinking Fab Four smoothies, this is where they come from!)

2. Intuitive Fasting by Dr. Will Cole

This book, with its 4-Week plan, teaches us to reconnect with our bodies, in order to better understand what we need when we need it. It’s really fascinating, laying out the many benefits of fasting, while also discussing many other facets of wellness, including sleep, the effects of stress, exercise, and what different foods do for each of us.

3. Ancient Remedies by Dr. Josh Axe

This book is a great example of how Functional Medicine works: it looks at the root cause of different chronic issues that individuals have, and works to heal the cause, not just treat the symptom. This is a “back to basics” kind of book, and it includes different ways you can treat and heal more than 70 common chronic issues.

4. The Elimination Diet by Tom Malterre and Alissa Segersten

The Elimination Diet is a gold standard for figuring out what foods cause inflammation in each of us. It’s an easy, compelling read, and it includes recipes and a step-by-step plan that guides you through the 3 phases of the Elimination Diet.

5. The Joy of Movement by Kelly McGonigal

This book dives deep into the science of movement (any and all movement: walking, dancing, biking, hiking, ultramarathon running, even just spending time outside) and its effects on our physical, mental, and emotional states. It is pretty heavy on the science (citing tons of studies to support it), which can get a little overwhelming, but there are so many moments in the book that make you go, “So that’s why I feel so good when I _______!”

Please note: I am not a medical practitioner; my thoughts are based on my own experience and research in supporting my own health journey. Please see your doctor about any questions you have or decisions you want to make about your health.
